We accept stress is a part of life, not something we can remove completely. But between all the day to day grind there are moments that can only be described as well… bliss. Maybe it’s running a hot bath, patting the dog, or watching your favourite tv show (not game of thrones, that shit is stressful!). Some of these moments are bigger, some are smaller but they have the same heart rate and blood pressure lowering, breathe calming, muscle relaxing and stress lowering effects! So we’re going to show you how to build a day each week, each month, hell even a period each day ideally where you bring those moments together, experiencing them completely presently (no phones or distractions please). And the best part they’re things your already doing!
STEP 1: BUILD YOUR BLISS LIST
Make it as long as possible, list everything that is of pure enjoyment. What is that real in the moment living kinds of experiences. Below are some examples:
BLISS LIST
Feeding Ducks by the river (Council approved of course)
Walks in nature
Reading a good book
Listening to nostalgic music
Training at Fitness HQ (naw thanks guys, side note: probably not the whole time)
Cleaning (believe it or not)
Animals
Cuddles/Time Spent with Kids
Sex
Learning a new skill
Taking the car or bike for a cruise
Massage
Floating
Shopping
STEP 2: EXPERIENCE YOUR DAY
Plan out and execute your YOU DAY, try to complete as many of the tasks that make you happy as possible, get your spouse, friends or family involved too (if you want them to be). Tick off as many of these tasks as you can in a day. Remove any distractions which might interfere with the experience as possible (like phones, kids, work calls, emails, finances etc). See how many days, weeks or months (whichever you decide) you can complete without missing your YOU DAY. And keep adding to that list! Give it a planned spot in your calendar.
We all know how good a holiday can be, but with all the amazing experiences that a holiday can bring, it’s easy to overlook the everyday stuff that we don’t get to fully enjoy, because we’re so distracted! It’s never about eliminating all stress, stress brings with it progress and action, the key is to find something that helps balance out the mayhem, for better happiness and overall health.
