How long have you been at HQ/Frantic?
I have been at Frantic and now HQ since it began back in 2013. I did one of the first block of intro sessions in the pretty early days and have kept coming back ever since. I started
with one day a week, then quickly ditched the old gym membership and started coming in 3 days week and have on occasion flirted with the unlimited membership but decided the 3 days was for me!
What brought you through our doors?
I had heard a little bit about crossfit and when I looked into it saw that Frantic was opening up pretty close to me. I liked the idea of the group fitness and that the coach had a sound health science background. I was also at the point where going to the gym and doing all the group fitness classes was feeling pretty monotonous. And I have kept coming through the doors ever since for the amazing sense of community and friendship (great chats) and of course the quality coaching and fitness!
What do you remember about your first day?
I remember that the red room looked very different to what it does now! A couple of rowers, only 20kg barbells, no squat racks, no big rig- but still a super challenging work out with the intro baseline! I remember two super friendly ladies laughing their way through it- Rach and Jazzy! And Coach Coote telling me that I had to try and squat below parallel!
What’s the workout that most stands out to you the most and why?
Any workout with thrusters feels like it has left a lasting memory but one that stands out is the open workout 14.5; 21-18-15-12-9-6-3 thrusters (30kg) and burpees for time (with no scaled option, but could do more of squat clean to overhead type movement). I remember it taking me over 30mins to get done and going to some deep dark places that I didn’t even know existed! The rest of the crew was there on their Friday night cheering and encouraging us through the whole thing. Two of us finished within seconds of each other and I just remembering feeling so proud of us that we hung in there and got through it! And that I never wanted to do another burpee/thruster combo!
Time and space travel for sure! I feel it could help me out in so many ways- getting to relive awesome memories, being able to commit to multiple social events at once and never having to experience FOMO, helping me out when I tend run that couple of minutes late for class on a weekly basis, fast forwarding to the last minute of an AMRAP and being able to travel and get places so much more efficiently just to name a few!
If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life what would if be?
A really good quality seedless watermelon!
